Bot Watch - Recently-Detected Web Spiders & Bots

We've detected a previously unobserved bot on our websites recently which exhibits what we consider bad behavior.

MVAClient -- This bot provides no identification. We could find little info about it, although it does appear in the access logs of numerous websites. It has apparently been around since at least 2 July of 2005 according to a post on the Webmaster World forum. This bot hit our Ten Spider Enterprises home page this morning at 5:31 AM EST, then hit our Business Center page within the same minute. The bot arrived using IPs 211.22.33.2, 220.135.3.96 and 218.166.53.159 (in that order) which all appear to belong to IP blocks owned by CHTD, Chunghwa Telecom Co. Ltd. in Taipei, Taiwan (source: APNIC).

The facts that this bot does not identify itself and rapidly rotates IP addresses makes its behavior suspicious. We have blocked this bot.

Bot Watch - Recently-Detected Web Spiders & Bots

We've detected two previously unobserved bots on our websites recently.

CFNetwork/1.1 -- This bot provides no identification. We could find little info about it, although it does appear in the logs of numerous websites. The only reference we did find associates it with denial of service (DoS) attacks. The bot arrived using IP 172.209.103.252, which appears to be part of an IP block owned by America Online (AOL). It was first observed on 22 Oct 2005 and has revisited today, each time accessing only one interior web page. We have blocked this bot.

Shim Crawler -- This bot likewise provides no identification, but a notepet identifies it as originating from the Chikayama-Taura Lab at the University of Tokyo. This bot may be experimental or a student project. It was first observed on 23 Oct 2005 and accessed only one interior web page. We have tentatively identified it as experimental and are allowing it at present pending further review.

Welcome to the Ten Spider Business Blog

Welcome to the debut of the Ten Spider Business Blog! The blog is managed by Ten Spider Enterprises, an information metasite for business, career, finance, security and consumer protection, technology and science, travel, pets and lifestyle resources. This blog is an adjunct to the Ten Spider Business Center. We also host the Ten Spider Blog, which is our sitewide blog. Following a site split which established the Business Center as an independent entity, I thought it might be a good idea to create a separate blog to service it, so ... here it is!

If you have business topics you would like to hear about, please let us know. If you feel you have some insight or knowledge to contribute to others regarding the world of business, I encourage you to register and express your views. If your contribution is pertinent and substantial, you may even get your own page in our Business Center! MORE ....

30 Days to Success - An Unorthodox Analysis

I recently received a question from a visitor to my SmallBizAid.com website interested in embarking on the 30 Days to Success system espoused by Stone Evans. This visitor asked whether the system can work for him and whether it can, in fact, be launched on a minimal budget. I will attempt to answer both of those questions here with some rather candid and unorthodox insights into the methodology behind the program and my own business experiences. Please read on ....
